Arkos Bar Cabinet

by Ömer ÖZTÜRK

Since ancient times, architecture has stood as a symbol of permanence, balance, and human aspiration. Designed by Ömer Öztürk for Malabar, the Arkos Cabinet emerges as a sculptural statement inspired by the timeless language of arches and monumental structures, where functionality and architectural expression coexist in perfect harmony.

Defined by a rhythmic composition of arches and geometric volumes, Arkos transcends the traditional notion of storage furniture, becoming a commanding presence within an interior. Its lacquered wood structure reveals a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow, while the bronze mirror surfaces introduce depth, reflection, and an ever-changing visual experience that transforms according to its surroundings.

The marble elements enrich the composition with a sense of solidity and permanence, creating a striking contrast between weight and lightness. Their presence reinforces the cabinet’s architectural identity, establishing a seamless dialogue between the upper and lower sections through the repetition of the arch motif.

Every detail contributes to the integrity of the design. The sculptural handles provide a subtle tactile element, softening the cabinet’s strong geometric language while inviting interaction.

The Totara armchair reflects postmodernism’s engagement with historical references, yet it does so with restraint and clarity. Rather than relying on overt dramatization, it achieves presence through proportion, silhouette, and material articulation.

Positioned within a space, the Totara operates simultaneously as seating and as a sculptural object. It establishes a relationship with its surroundings, anchoring the environment while inviting interaction.

The tension between softness and solidity, between enclosure and openness, defines its character: strong, protective, and statuesque.
