Metaphorm Game Table

In the imaginative world of Dutch artist M. C. Escher, nothing is ever quite as it seems. Fascinated by geometry, symmetry, and optical illusions, Escher explored the endless possibilities of transformation, where one form gives way to another. Created between 1939 and 1940, his celebrated woodcut Metamorphosis II unfolds as a continuous visual journey, transforming geometric patterns into living creatures, architectural landscapes, and a chessboard.

Inspired by this fascinating interplay of shapes and perspectives, Malabar designers conceived the Metaphorm Game Table, a handcrafted chess and backgammon table that brings the art of transformation into play.

Echoing Escher's ever-changing compositions, the artistic Metaphorm game table features a reversible tabletop that reveals two distinct worlds: the timeless geometry of chess on one side and the rhythmic patterns of backgammon on the other. Crafted in walnut and natural oak, the tabletop showcases intricate marquetry combining various exotic wood veneers, creating a captivating dialogue between patterns, textures, and forms. Beneath this geometric composition, the sculptural structure unfolds in lacquered wood and natural oak, complemented by Emperador marble and hammered wood. Delicate details in brushed aged brass add a final touch of refinement.

Blurring the boundaries between art and function, the Metaphorm Game Table becomes a captivating centrepiece for living rooms, game rooms, hotel lounges, and private clubs, inviting moments of connection and playful discovery. A celebration of the poetry of metamorphosis, where every turn unveils a new perspective, and every game becomes an expression of art.
