Our Philosophy

Heritage, reimagined

malabar-our-philosophy

Rooted in culture. Shaped by art. Crafted in Portugal.

For those who believe interiors should be anything but ordinary.

Malabar is a Portuguese furniture brand inspired by the dialogue between heritage, art, architecture, and craftsmanship.

Founded in 2012, Malabar emerged from a desire to reinterpret cultural references through contemporary design. The brand began with a collection of decorative Portuguese Fado guitars and the World Architects Collection, establishing from the outset a strong connection between furniture, artistic expression, and architectural heritage.
Since then, Malabar has developed distinctive collections of furniture, upholstery and decorative pieces that explore the relationship between past and present. Each design draws from cultural memory, artistic movements, architectural references and traditional craftsmanship, translating them into objects with a contemporary identity.

Evoke Moods

With the Future Classics Collection, Malabar continues this exploration through a more expressive and unconventional approach. The collection challenges established ideas of form, proportion and composition, creating pieces that reinterpret heritage rather than simply reproduce it.

Every Malabar piece is designed and handcrafted in the Porto region of Portugal, a territory with a long-standing tradition of furniture making and artisanal production. Here, generations of craftsmanship meet contemporary design, preserving techniques and knowledge while allowing them to evolve through new materials, forms and creative perspectives.

For Malabar, heritage is not something static.

MISSION

Blur the line between furniture and art.

Furniture can do more than fill a room. We create pieces that invite a second look, challenge familiar ideas and bring artistic expression into everyday life, not as decoration, but as something to live with.

VISION

Carry heritage forward through design.

We see Malabar as a place where cultural references, traditional making and contemporary thinking come together. Each collection becomes a new interpretation of what came before, shaped for the present and open to what comes next.

VALUES

Curiosity. Craft. Reinterpretation.

We are driven by the tension between the familiar and the unexpected, between heritage and experimentation, between material and form. Every piece is shaped through dialogue between designers and artisans, ideas and hands, tradition and new perspectives.

That exchange is what gives Malabar its character.

Malabar grows through collaboration.

Art Lovers is a space for ideas, collaborations and unexpected encounters. A platform where artists are invited to step outside their usual context, experiment with new formats and reinterpret familiar references through their own language. The result is not a fixed collection, but an evolving series of projects shaped by curiosity, contrast and creative freedom.
